The Mission

The Peking to Paris Rally is a recreation of the 1907 challenge issued by Le Matin, "Is there anyone who will undertake to travel this summer from Peking to Paris by automobile?"
The 2016 version will follow a route of 13,695 Km (8,510 miles) and take 35 days. We are travelling in Rhubarb and Custard, a 1936 Buick. We know nothing about cars or rallying.

Fwd: Blogging

> When we decided to have a shot at PTOP we searched on the Internet for information about the event.
>
> There a few blogs from previous entrants, the official book and video of the previous event and the various other books I have blogged about before.
>
> Being in London we could attend the meeting at the Royal Geographical Society for the 2013 participants and Richard met the late Philip Young at Goodwood. We also found out about Rally Preparation Services and visited Simon Ayris.
>
> Despite all this prep before we committed it's become obvious that we don't or haven't known what we are doing. So one purpose of this blog is to act as a resource for future entrants so that they have practical help. If you are thinking of entering PTOP don't hesitate to contact me - but you might want to wait until the rally is over.
>
> A second reason for blogging is to provide a souvenir of the trip and I guess now we are on the cusp of the start line this second purpose will start to take over.
>
> At present it is possible to blog every day with Wifi connection but there's no wifi in Mongolia and on the rally it's very busy and blogging must take second place. Our friends at Aston University will blog on our behalf from time to time but if the blog goes silent don't stop reading. It just means we are a bit blogged down (oh dear).
